Sex and
The City:
The Movie
Beautiful, Bold,
Sexy
Dawn Bonner
Sex and the City, The Movie, did not skimp on anything. Not the clothing, shoes, handbags, accessories, one-liners, or time. It runs two hours and twenty-five minutes. Yet, we still wanted more. Both Jen (one of my movie dates) and I are making plans to see it again. The only shows I have ever seen more than once during run times have been live theatre; Cirque's 'Mystere,' and different renditions of 'Cats'-not movies. I think I am a 'Sex' addict, as I can't seem to get enough.
Five minutes into the movie, Jenny said, "Did you remember the hankies?"
Sentimental
Just seeing our old friends again, in the first few frames, was enough to entice a few sentimental tears. And, as you get into the movie, there is some sad stuff--laced in with (of course) hilarious antics of the girls. All three of us teared up several times. One scene was so funny, I laughed so hard, tears came again. OMGosh, just remembering the scene right now makes me laugh.
There were a few holes--and if you haven't seen the movie yet, I am not going to spoil a thing for you by dishing about them, but Starlene (my other movie date) pointed out one, Jen another, and as me, I found a couple of inconsistencies in the girls behavior--even with the holes, our love of everything 'Sex' was not diminished.
Evolved
Seeing the movie made me realize how much I have missed my girlfriends-Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha. Patrick King did have the women evolve and grow, which was pleasant. It is weary to see people age physically, but not mentally in the love-challenged sagas of many other movies. Not our dear ladies. Plus, the ladies are aging gracefully mentally and physically.

A Look at the Cast
The whole cast looks fabulous and here are a few things to look forward to:
Big (
Chris Noth) is even more handsome--he looks fabulous in that delicious penthouse. Steve and Jerrod (David Eigenberg and Jason Lewis) aged the most-it looks good on Eigenberg-not as good on Lewis, yet he is still a hunk. Carrie's (Sarah Jessica Parker) taste in clothing has refined itself-being more consistent as a style icon--not as moody. Samantha (
Kim Cattrall) looks fresh, well rested, and her style is superb-bold and tastefully done, very ladylike with flair. Our dear Charlotte (Kristin Davis) had the funniest part in the movie-her comedic timing is as great as her beauty. It would have been wonderful to have seen a bit more of Harry (Evan Handler), Charlotte's husband, because of the humor he was able to pull off in the series. Magda (Lynn Cohen) is still fun (Miranda's maid), and speaking of Miranda (Cynthia Nixon)-the vote goes to her for the hottest scene in the movie. Wowsa. Great surprise-she's got it going on. You go girl. One give away-you get to see Steve's ass-nice one-it hasn't aged a bit. And, the other love of my life-
New York City-adds textures to the movie, which no other city could-the Big Apple still is a beauty.

Adding to the Ambiance
Jen, Starlene, and I saw the movie in a small resort city of Alexandria, Minn. A fairly conservative area. The theater added to the ambiance, it wasn't one of the new fangled theaters in the big city. Nice touch because it added to the nostalgia of the movie, Carrie's apartment, and looking through Carrie's closet-the sentimentality of it all. The seats were the old velvet seats with the huge back and cushions so comfy-you sink into them-which made for a great sit. The popcorn was freshly popped and hot-haven't had that treat in years at the theater, and surprisingly there were a lot of men in the theater. I read somewhere that the audiences were 85 to 90% women. This wasn't the case in Alexandria. The men were very expressive during the movie, and was fun to hear their comments, as well as their laughs. They had a great time.
Dick-A-Licious
There was only one thing I would have liked to have added to the movie-a scene with our old friend, 'Dick-a-Licious.' Well, there is still hope, as I am praying they make more movies, and come back with the series...How about you?
Midwest Disagreement
Now, the Midwest has a reputation of being conservative, so I was interested in the reactions of the audience. The men were loving the movie-very engaged in everything going on. And, BTW, these men were your average, hardworking, nice heterosexual guys. The big surprise was going into the bathroom afterwards. The women were talking about how much they enjoyed the movie--but three of them said too bad Samantha has to be such of a big whore. Whoa-get back-Jen, Star, and I absolutely disagree with their opinions. Will be interesting to see what the ladies in Calif. have to say after the movie.
Emotional and FunBy Ange' Taylor

Having been an earlier fan of the HBO soap, I was quite eager to sit with friends and watch it. First off, I went with someone who had never seen the HBO series and she "forgot" to advise me that she had not watched it. Therefore, throughout the entire movie, I was subjected to a barrage of questions, which at times I found to be quite irritating to say the least!
My Last Nerve
Let's see...
Charlotte's daughter absolutely got on my last nerve! I realize the writer's need to bring us up to date after five years, but that child was just in the way. It was a grown-up movie that should not have had that much focus on a child (notice that Miranda's child was not in the "way" as Charlotte's child was).
Miranda's situation was, at times, understandable, yet she never thought she was wrong, which was her character at times in the series. A little bitchy...as usual!
About Samantha
Samantha...I just love her honesty, no matter how brutal it can be at times. They had her subdued in the movie, but at the end she became honest, true to herself. In the series, she had most of us educated about what the female body and sex was really all about. (In fact if it wasn't for this show I would have never known about the "Water Pik"!) Moreover, with Samantha, we women got the chance to "see" some very handsome, well built men! All flavors!
About Carrie,
Mixed Feelings
Carrie, Carrie, Carrie! I was straddling the fence with her getting married. You hope that she does, but you kind of wish that she stays single, since you know that the best stories would come from her and her loves. You wanted to see her and Big hook up, but you knew that it would be the end. The way the movie ended you almost felt there would be a part two.
Laugh and Cry
There were a mixture of emotional moments. You had to laugh with the "gas accident" that Charlotte had. Your heart broke when Big stood-up Carrie. You wanted to just monkey slap Miranda for the way she treated her husband and for what she said to Big because she was trying to show how hard she was. You felt inspired and uplifted when Carrie decided to move on.
Woman of Color
I also like the touch of adding some flavor and color by allowing Jennifer Hudson to be Carrie's assistant. They portrayed a black woman with some intelligence and not acting all ghetto. (Okay her rent a purse was almost there!)
I wish I could have attended the movie with some heels on, but I would have broke my friggin' neck!
