The Incredible Hulk

Eerie Realism

Tom Cravens

Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) is a really nice guy who cannot figure out what happened during his scientific research for the government. After the accident where his lab was destroyed and his girl Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) was injured, he goes into hiding. The experiment on him went wrong and now his blood is different, changing him into a monster whenever he becomes excited. Unknown to Banner, the government wanted to create a super soldier, instead he transforms into something that is uncontrollable. He is barely conscience of what the Hulk is doing as it destroys and kills. Bruce tries to control the transformations and he longs to get back home, to his girl, to a normal life. The government still wants a super soldier and is after him for the secrets his blood holds; one of those soldiers Blonsky (Tim Roth) is willing to help with the new experiments.

The digital reality is so good that you see it as perfectly natural that the Hulk would pick up a car, split it in half and use those half cars as boxing gloves. The transformation is eerie in its realism; arms and hands bulging before growing bigger. The rage and anger have always been trade marks of the Hulk, but the range of emotions displayed here takes you on a ride (bring tissues). For anyone who read the comic book, or who like big green monsters, I highly recommend this flick.

Loud and Busy

Cozette Cravens

The Incredible Hulk was loud, and the special effects were so busy it gave me a headache. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) is part of an experiment gone wrong. When his heart rate increases he turns from a handsome man into this uncontrollable beast-like hulk of a man. He is on the run from the U.S.Military and seeks out his old girlfriend Elizabeth Ross (Liv Tyler).

The love story between them is weak and could have been better. I was disappointed with the Hulk and special effects. The story ending was left open for a possible sequel at a later time. Maybe it’s just me, but I like to see a movie without coming away from it with a headache and glad to see it over. Although, on a positive note, my husbands testosterone levels rose; I think he was ready to take on the world.
