The Mummy Mistique

After retiring, things are a little too slow for Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his wife, Evelyn (Maria Bello). So, when the English government gives them the opportunity to carry out a simple job, they can’t resist.
They are asked to return an artifact to China while they visit Evelyn’s brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). While in China, Rick and Evelyn are reunited with their son, Alex (Luke Ford). Alex has dropped out of college to participate in an archeological dig--with the dream of finding China’s first Emperor, Han (Jet Li). Family problems are quickly dwarfed by betrayal and the awakening of the Emperor’s Mummy.
The digital effects were amazing, I enjoyed the Yeti most of all. The skeleton armies and terra cotta warriors at battle were also impressive. The dramatic avalanche scene allows for a unique experience.
Like Indiana Jones, this movies passes on The Mummy Mystique to the next generation; introducing the possibility of sequels.
I Was Not Disappointed

Being an Art History major, my intent on seeing The Mummy was to check out how well the army of terracotta warriors were portrayed. I was not disappointed.
The costumes for the various periods were well depicted. As I watched the story line and action develop, my hand started sweating with tension. My husband and I hold hands in the movie and he didn't even notice it. The light humor between the characters helped lighten some of the drama.
The movie opens with Rick O’Connell (Brandon Frazer) and his wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) blase'. Being retired from their previous adventurous lifestyle has left them bored with their ordinary lives.
Soon, they are contacted by the British government and asked to carry a special artifact back to China; not knowing what the real intent was. Rick and Evelyn go to China to visit Evelyn’s brother Jonathan (John Hannah), who owns a nightclub and make their delivery.
In China, they find their son Alex (Luke Ford), celebrating his discovery of the Tomb of the Emperor Han, of the Qin Dynasty. The action and suspense starts here. The Emperor and his terracotta warriors were brought back to life. The O’Connell’s and a sorceress attempt to stop the havoc this Emperor is going to bring to China.
There are some scary scenes, so caution with smaller children. I won’t give away the ending, but it was good. The costumes and special effects were captivating. This is a film for my library.
